Tootsie Rolls Recipe
Ingredients:
1 c of sugar (granulated)
1/2 c of corn syrup (light)
2 Tbsps of shortening; softened
4 tsps of cocoa powder
2 Tbsps of evaporated milk (skim)
1/2 tsp of vanilla
Instructions:
Boil the syrup, cocoa powder, sugar, and shortening inside a medium-sized saucepan above moderately high heat; once boiled, reduce the heat; allow to simmer ’til it reaches (275 degrees F) on sugar thermometer.
Take out from the heat and when bubbling ceases, add milk then beat with a mixer for half a minute. Pour in vanilla and continue beating until texture becomes firm. Transfer onto parchment paper.
Once the candy has cooled, cut to several pieces then roll to form logs. Slice the log-like candy and place on plates; allow to set overnight.
